Xiaomi’s latest flip phone has a way bigger battery than any of Samsung’s new foldables

Xiaomi is teasing the launch of the Mix Flip 2 right as Samsung prepares to launch its new foldables, and, despite being a flip phone, it has a bigger battery than both the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and even the Fold 7, for that matter.

Samsung has been playing it very safe when it comes to battery capacity on Galaxy devices for a while now, and that stagnation has been especially clear on foldables. The same 4,400 mAh battery has been used in the past few generations of the Galaxy Z Fold series, and Galaxy Z Flip 6 had a mere 4,000 mAh power pack.

While the Galaxy Z Flip 7 is set to bring a battery upgrade – the Fold isn’t – it’s still not going to break any records.

Xiaomi, meanwhile, has confirmed that the Mix Flip 2 will ship with a 5,165 mAh battery. That’s bigger than any of the foldables Samsung has in the works, and bigger than the company’s flagship Galaxy S25 Ultra too. Again, that’s in a flip phone foldable roughly the same size as Samsung’s. Xiaomi’s design is a bit thicker, but only around 0.7mm thicker when opened.

Notably, Xiaomi is delivering a battery that’s almost 400 mAh larger this time around, and even the prior generation was already beating Samsung.

More teasers around the Xiaomi Mix Flip 2 confirm the use of Snapdragon 8 Elite (where Flip 7 will use Exynos), 199g weight, a 6.86-inch inner display, and a 4.01-inch outer display. The full reveal for this foldable takes place later this week on June 26.

Sadly, though, there’s no chance of this device coming to the States but, hopefully, it will eventually hit the global market.

As our Will Sattelberg explained, though, that simple fact of availability is enough to leave the foldable crown to Samsung and its tiny batteries. Without real competition like Xiaomi is delivering, Samsung’s upgrades this year are compelling enough to draw up some excitement.
