It’s no secret that Samsung is working on a “tri-fold” device, but its appearance has been a mystery for quite some time. Now, though, we’re getting a first look courtesy of an animation found in One UI 8.
Samsung’s “tri-fold” device is thought to be called the “Galaxy G Fold.” The company has, so far, done a pretty good job in hiding what the device looks like and many details about it but, as a launch gets closer, more details are coming out.
In easily the biggest leak thus far, it seems that Samsung has slipped up and included an animation of the “tri-fold” in a build of One UI 8. The animation, spotted by Android Authority, shows the device from the back and open while showing the user where the NFC antenna lies.
The device is clearly shown to have a triple camera setup akin to the Galaxy Z Fold 7, as well as a selfie camera on both the inner and outer displays.

The most interesting thing we see here, though, is that Samsung’s take on a “tri-fold” differs from the one we’ve seen so far from Huawei. Where the Mate XT stacks its outer display on top and then unfolds in a “Z” pattern to reveal the full inner display, Samsung’s version puts the outer display in the middle of the three panels, opening more like a tri-fold poster board with displays coming from either side of the main, central panel. This was previously rumored to be the case.
We know what this looks like in real life because, back at MWC, Samsung showed off the “Flex G” concept that worked in exactly the same way. That device was much larger and lacked an outer display, but the general idea is the same.

Samsung is rumored to tease this device at its Unpacked event next week, though the focus will be on Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 for the time being. The Samsung “tri-fold” may launch in October.
Samsung has reservations open now for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7, with a $50 credit when you pre-order and up to $1,150+ in savings. Reservations are free, and there’s no obligation to actually buy a device if you sign up, but there’s no other time you can get that $50 credit (which can go towards Galaxy Watch 8), 3x reward points, and other perks.
